Step by Step Configuring SAN storage in Windows 2003 Server using MS iSCSI Initiator

Step by Step Configuring SAN storage in Windows 2003 Server using MS iSCSI Initiator
1. Download MS iSCSI Initiator from Microsoft site.
2. Install MS iSCSI Initiator as shown  below.

3. Open the Microsoft iSCSI Initiator.

4. Click on the Discovery tab to add a iSCSI Target

5.  Enter the ip address of the iSCSI Target Server as shown below and click OK.

6. Click the Targets tab to see the LUN assigned and the status, now click the Log On button to connect to the iSCSI Target.

7. You can ensure the LUN assigned by comparing the Target Name and the LUNs mapped to target in the iSCSI Storage.

 8. In the Log on to Target box, select the check box “Automatically restore this connection when the system boots” to restore the LUN whenever the system reboots.

9. Once done you can see the LUN assigned as persisted by clicking the Persistent Targets tab as shown below.

10. Now we are successfully connected a SAN storage to our windows server and you can see a additional disk drive visible in Disk Management.

11. Format the additional drive(here eg: Disk 3) as usual and assign a volume name(To identify I had given as  SAN_Disk here)

12. Use the SAN Disk as your additional storage.

13. That’s it..Now we had successfully added a 6 GB(nearly) SAN Storage to the Windows Server.
